Some Quotes to Live By

We are exposed to a lot of opinions and suggestions from people around us - from social media statuses to the books that we read and even the sermons we listen to. Sometimes they are directed towards us, but most of the time they are just messages thrown into the air and we catch them as if they are meant to change the way we think. True enough, they often do!

Here are some of my favorite lines that somehow have influenced my faith and outlook in life.

On setting priorities straight:

Too often we say we are "defeated" by this or that sin. No, we are not defeated; we simply are disobedient! It might be good if we stopped using the terms "victory" and "defeat" to describe our progress in holiness. Rather we should use the terms "obedience" and "disobedience". - Jerry Bridges, The Pursuit of Holiness

We even celebrate walking out of church feeling guilty, as though that were the goal. Biblically, that is failure... "but be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves. (James 1:22) - Francis Chan, Crazy Love

On leaving baggages behind:

If God is able to forget your past, why can't you? When you confess your sins and ask forgiveness of them, God throws your sins into the depths of the sea, and then puts up a sign on the shore that reads, "No Swimming". - Erwin Lutzer, Getting to No

"He made Him who knew no sin to be sin on our behalf, so that we might become the righteousness of God in Him." 2 Corinthians 5:21 - The Apostle Paul, in his second letter to the Corinthians

On moving forward towards the goal:

"All dreams can come true if we have the courage to purpse them." - Walt Disney

"Your past has nothing to do with your future. But you have to fight your way out of your past to be able to step into your future. #promiseland" - Quest

Bonus:

To convince myself to read my Bible:

"Don't say God is silent when your Bible is closed. Open it and read it. God will speak." - Adam Cappa
